As part of your annual Christmas adventures, I wanted to take a moment to encourage you to consider those in your community who are less fortunate.
There are many organizations who provide services throughout the year, and those who focus specifically on Christmas. In the Edmonton area, here are some you may wish to your charitable giving list:
- Edmonton Food Bank – Provides year-round foodstuffs for Edmontonians in need. Each month more than 15,000 people access food available from the Food Bank – and about 40% of those are under the age of 18. There are Food Banks in most cities – contact your local organization.
- Santa’s Anonymous – CHED Santas Anonymous is devoted to bettering the lives of children in our community by delivering the “spirit of Christmas” to less fortunate children in Edmonton. If there are toy-raising organizations in your community, please consider helping to make a child’s Christmas a little brighter.
- Bissell Centre – The Bissell Centre helps Edmonton’s homeless year round with programs, supports and activities. Winter in Edmonton is particularly harsh, so this year the Centre has launched a special “hoody-raising” campaign in conjunction with United Cycle. Just $5 contributes to the purchase of a durable hoody to help shelter those against the cold. Click here if you are able to participate.
Look around your city. Wonderful organizations work miracles with very little. Help them to help someone in your area.
Merry Christmas, all!
