Ugh. It’s Valentine’s Day

It’s that time of year again – the most loved and hated occasion of the year.

Valentine’s Day.Valentine heart

The pressure is piled on this one day of the year during which we’re supposed to be and do things to meet some media-fueled standard.

If you’re single, the pressure is to get a date/get engaged/get married.

If you’re married, the presValentine lingeriesure is on to be sexy, risqué and daring. Squeeze into uncomfortable lacy things and parade around for your partner. Have marathon, all-day sex that would make Christian Grey blush.

Sigh.

The problem is that if we could do all these things on a regular basis, we would, right? Some people do – good for them. For others, these concepts don’t fit with their personalities and so trying them feels awkward. And, there’s work, dishes, kids, meetings, obligations… an endless list of the mundane tasks that take priority in our lives, despite best intentions. Nothing sexy about cleaning the toilet, but it has to be done.

Give yourself a break.

It doesn’t mean you have to give up trying, but do it on your own terms. Find ways to express your love for your someone special that fits with your relationship, personality and lifestyle. Don’t feel pressured to do or be something that you’re not just because it’s Valentine’s Day.

Real love is about being genuine. So be yourself.

Now that’s sexy.
